Ian Matthew Cummins was born on April 1, 1999 at 5:19 a.m.
Weighing in at 8 lbs. 3 oz., and 22 inches long, he was a "good size" baby.
We just want you to know that he is the cutest baby ever.
So we said good night after going out for Thai food with our friends Gary and Christine. A couple of hours later, labor started in earnest (it had sort of been going for the past two days with minor cramps and contractions). We were in the hospital at 3:00 a.m., pushing by 4:30, and out popped Ian at 5:16. A healthy placenta emerged a few minutes later, but we declined to take pictures of that. Stop by the grocery store and look at some liver to get a rough idea.
Well, it's been a few sentences since you had a picture, so let's see how Kim is doing. . .
The whole thing was a bit exhausting for all involved (including Libby Cohen, our midwife, who had a couple more babies to deliver that day and all this on Passover).
But hey, we got a baby out of it. So it was on to the obligatory phone calls for those who still don't have e-mail. . .
Here's the scary thing: after the baby came out, the midwife held up the umbilical cord and said, "Hm. Look at that." And there was a big knot in it! But it was apparently loose enough not to be a problem. But still. . . yike. Anyway, the story has a happy ending.
